SINGAPORE SLING
The Book

SYNOPSIS

SINGAPORE SLING  – The Man Who Loved a Corpse
by Nikos Nikolaidis

The idea for the book on the history of the film “Singapore Sling” arose mainly because of the sustained interest and strong audience response to screenings of the film (as well as the continued DVD sales) in countries such as France and the United States, and of course in Greece, where it is regularly shown at film festivals, tributes, events, and initiatives, such as the “Lost Highway of Greek Cinema,” “The Athens International Film Festival, Opening Nights ,” and others.

The editorial supervision was undertaken by N.N.’s partner and collaborator, set and costume designer Marie Louise Vartholomaiou Nikolaidou, along with his son, Symeon Nikolaidis, for Restless Wind Publications (Symeon Nikolaidis’s company). The graphic design is by Panos Kasiaris.

Texts written especially for this edition were contributed by director Alexis Alexiou and director/musician Alexandros Voulgaris / The Boy.

The book includes the film’s screenplay — often sought after by young people and film school students — published for the first time together with the deleted scenes. Along with the diary of the film’s creation, written by Marie Louise Vartholomaiou Nikolaidou, photographs from rehearsals, filming, and the finished work, press clippings, narratives, interviews, and texts by the director and the leading actors, as well as reviews and articles ranging from the film’s early festival days to its contemporary anniversary screenings. Together, all these elements compose a book that serves as an initiation into the unique Nikolaidis universe, which remains forever open.
